Georgia Tech, NVIDIA Launch First AI Supercomputer

The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and NVIDIA Corporation have joined forces to introduce a groundbreaking initiative in AI education. They have created the first AI supercomputer to be used by students.

The unveiling of the AI Makerspace marks a significant milestone in Georgia Tech’s commitment to innovation and leadership in education. This initiative, established within Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering is dedicated exclusively to teaching students about AI. Besides, it became a reality through a collaboration with NVIDIA, a leading technology company renowned for its expertise in AI.

In fact, AI Makerspace serves as a pioneering platform for students to explore AI. It offers unprecedented access to cutting-edge computing resources. The students now get access to computing resources typically reserved for researchers or tech companies. Thus, this initiative aims to empower students with hands-on experience in AI in the classroom setting. Through this endeavor, undergraduate students, are initially the focus of the program. They will gain practical insights into AI applications, enhancing their skills and preparing them for future endeavors in the field.

NVIDIA’s AI Enterprise Software

At the core of the AI Makerspace lies a dedicated computing cluster powered by NVIDIA’s AI Enterprise software. This state-of-the-art infrastructure, developed in collaboration with Penguin Solutions, provides students with a virtual gateway to a high-performance computing environment. Equipped with 20 NVIDIA HGX H100 systems and 160 NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs, the AI Makerspace has unparalleled computational power, enabling students to explore advanced AI and machine learning concepts.

AI Supercomputer Paves the Way for Next Generation

As mentioned by Raheem Beyah, Dean of the College of Engineering and the Southern Company Chair, thanks to the collaboration between the institute and NVIDIA, students at all levels will be free to “make significant contributions and lead in the rapidly evolving field of AI.”

Moreover, plans include expanding access to graduate students and incorporating AI Makerspace into the curriculum across all engineering schools. Additionally, future developments such as the AI Makerspace Omniverse, a sandbox for augmented and virtual reality, will further enrich student learning experiences. Thus, with the AI supercomputer, Georgia Tech, and NVIDIA are paving the way for the next generation of AI innovators.
